Seeking Kinder Egg capsules

I'm looking for a few Kinder Egg capsules for a craft project -- specifically, small plush squid that are "shaker toys".  Can any of you local folks help?  The former colleague and Kinder Egg fanatic who I thought could help me has told me that he has none left.  Yes, I could just go buy some of the eggs, but I don't have any interest in the candy or the toys.

(I gave my prototype shaker squid to Heather Dale after her concert at Worldcon.)

My! To Heather Dale - she is certainly a worthy cause. :)

I have two unopened Kinder Eggs here at home, and I am sure there would be no complaints if I asked my kids to deal with the Candy and Toy portions. :)

When do you need them for?

During her performance of "Fisherman's Boy" -- "Throwing them back to the ocean / Back to the living once more" -- I was slightly tempted to toss one of the little squid to the stage from the audience. But I decided that that would be cruel to the performers.

(Hmm. With regard to my big squid... "He had a hat..!")

There isn't any particular rush for the capsules, though I'm naggingly curious as to how well they'll work for the shaker toys. For my prototype, I used a medium-sized, slightly-narrow pill bottle -- I had to make the squid a bit bigger than usual, and the shape of the bottle, and the edge of the cap, were still more obvious than I liked.

Definitely agreed!

How many do you need?

I can probably use half a dozen or so to start with. Possibly more later, if I find there's some demand for the shaker toys. I wouldn't mind picking up a bit of money for doing such things, if people are interested. As it is, I'd be happy to sell one or both of the big plush squid, and/or to make more on commission.

I might be interested in getting one for a friend at some point.
But I'll keep you in mind when the kinder eggs start going around!

near Easter, the plastic eggs show up in craft stores and dollar stores as fill-them-yourself.

For a good shaker, you need quite a hard plastic.

(How about the fizzy vitamin C tablets that come in a metal tube?)

If you mean the eggs that are about the size of large hen's eggs, those are much larger than I can use. The Kinder Egg capsules are about 2" long x 1" diameter cylinders with rounded ends, just about exactly right to fit my miniature plush squids.

The glass beads I used for my prototype made a reasonable amount of noise against each other, without having to bounce off a hard wall. The pill bottle I used in the prototype was of a moderately hard plastic -- HDPE, I think -- and was probably only a bit more rigid than the Kinder Egg capsules are.

I'd have to go looking for the vitamin C tablets to know exactly what you mean, but I suspect that the tube is probably not a good shape, and that I'd be paying a fairly stiff price for a package whose contents I'm not interested in.

Ah - yes the cylinders I was referring to are about 4x the size you want.

I'll have to think if I've seen anything about that size.

Shaker eggs: is this a "kinder" fate for them than the usual one? :-)
