The egg was given to me about 25 years ago, by a young woman I had quite a crush on at the time. She got married a long time ago, I haven't seen her in about 15 years, haven't had any contact with her for about 5 years, so the egg doesn't have anywhere near as much emotional significance as it used to.
Still, it was a nice bit of art, and a gift from a friend; I'd like to find some way of restoring it if I can.
I was rather peeved by the guy who picked it up and broke it -- it was in a special holder on my mantelpiece, out of the way, not sitting in the middle of a coffee table or something. I missed a few moments of the radio show after my call was disconnected; I think the conservator said something about how much damage to precious art is caused by careless people who give in to that urge to handle things.
