Wedding thing

Yesterday, I had the honour of attending the wedding of commodorified, raynedaze , random, and fairestcat. It was a slightly odd ceremony, combining pagan and Christian elements.  And oh, yeah, there was the "four people getting married" thing; you don't see that every day.  Not yet, anyway.

It was also an opportunity to spend time with friends, including folks I haven't spent enough time with in too long, such as fajrdrako , auriaephiala, ladymondegreen , and akawil.  There was lots of yummy food, with care taken to accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions (which I very much appreciate).

I had my best hat with me, but it didn't seem to me that it quite matched the flavour of the event, so I left it with my jacket.  I need to get more supplies so I can make myself something more appropriate.

My compliments to the happy... quartet?  (I don't know what the appropriate parallel term is: '2' is to 'couple' as '4' is to ..?)  May their lives together be long and joyful.

There are a lot of details about poly that I'm vague on (at best). Do "quad", "N", and "Z" indicate which pairs of people are closely connected, as -- if I'm understanding correctly -- a triangle differs from a "V"?

Yes, exactly. Sometimes people define relationships based on romantic involvement. Sometimes based on depth of emotional attachment. Sometimes based on sexual involvement. And, as you may have intuited, sometimes that people that you care about most are not the people that you're bumping uglies with.

I've heard triads referred to as either a V (A and B are both dating C, but not each other) or a delta (A, B, and C are each dating each other).

My own style of poly is a bit more loosely configured, and doesn't tend to include any polyhedrons, so mmmv.

I've heard of examples of serial poly relationships, in which A, B, C and D all get together and grow old, A dies, one of the younger ones brings E and maybe F into the fold, they grow old and ad infinitum. (Not sure if I made any sense here...) Maybe it's pan-dimensional.

I'm currently dating three people, all men, herein X,Y and Z.

X and I have both dated A, A and I dated B (who also had sex with X).
X, Y and I all have relationships with C. X and C have a relationship that is very low key, sporadic, and sexual. C and I have a relationship that is emotionally intimate and sometimes sexual. Y and C have a relationship that is very similar to the relationship that Y and I.
I am dating Z. Y and Z previously had sexually intimate, emotionally intimate, co-habitting romantic relationships with D.

None of that creates a polygon.
