Okay, I'm not having a particularly good time.  And there's a reason I have some reputation for cynicism.  But I try not to rain on other peoples' parades, at least.

If someone sends out a cheery message like "Happy Canada Day!", I don't reply with something like "Don't you mean "Happy Mcguinty's New Tax Day"?"

Sorry about that. I think I heard one or two radio news reports mention that the HST had come into effect, and it didn't occur to me that some might be trying to block it from mind -- I wasn't thinking of it as a potential "spoiler".

Hmm. Magazine subscriptions were one of the items that got caught in the change. I take it that comics count as books rather than as magazines?

No, they're still "magazines" as far as I know. However, you're looking at subscriptions whilst I'm looking at retail purchases, so there may be a change in one with no difference in the other.

According to the info I saw, that's right -- subscriptions were affected, but retail purchases were not.

The sad thing is that it now is decidedly *less* of a benefit to subscribe than it used to be. Just how that benefits businesses that print magazines, I sincerely cannot claim to know.

It might boost the walk-in traffic for the news-stands, though to what degree I can't yet guess.
