Re: the new Lone Ranger movie... If they had to have Depp as Tonto, would it have been less problematic if they'd also had a native-American as the Lone Ranger?  In, well, paleface... so to speak?

(I haven't seen the movie, and the reviews I've seen don't inspire me to do so.)

I seem to recall reading that Hammer is part Cherokee.

Ancestry.com says that he's "descended from" "Cherokee leader and peace advocate Chief Kanagatucko", and a lot of sites quote that. There don't seem to be any further details available.

ETA: Oh wait, "8th great-grandfather", i.e. 10 generations back. 1/1024 Cherokee. That doesn't count for much except to extreme racists, I think.
