Why do so many of the phone-spam calls involve air duct cleaning?  I'd have thought that the market for that scam was more than saturated.  Not that I want phone spam for carpet cleaning, pet laundering, tree washing, etc., but they might get more business out of the population they're pestering.

At this point, I'm getting some mileage out of pretending that the Indian-accented callers with spoofed local phone numbers are calling for gay bondage phone sex, or trying to rent out their sisters.

You have given me inspiration. The next time I get one, I shall say, "Oh thank God! The damn thing's killed three people already and the police and the EPA are still having a pissing contest over jurisdiction!"

I once got a telemarketer to hang up on me.

I have severe OCD (clinically diagnosed). Before my medication got balanced, I would hunt down the owners of businesses doing telemarketing. Owners of moving and duct-cleaning companies usually used their home phone number when registering their domain names. They usually also did not enjoy being called at home.

Odd that the telephone company threatened me for calling telemarketers at home, but refused to take action against the telemarketers violating the do-not-call list.

I now do not have either a landline or a cellphone.

We were called during a meal. I picked up the phone and was asked, "May I speak to the lady of the house?"

I said, "I'm sorry, I just finished cutting up her body and burying it under the house. Can I help you?"

There was a long silence, then a click.

I turned, glowing with pride, and saw Valerie's already large and lovely eyes bigger than I have ever seen them before or since. I explained.

The food was delayed anyway. We kept setting each other off.

The funny thing is, it was years before we got another telemarketer call.

Possibly they share information.

So ducts don't need cleaning??

I had assumed that a clogged (un-cleaned) duct was responsible for killing my dryer's heating element.

Of course they need cleaning... once in a long while. Every few years, perhaps. But I'm getting idiots calling me about cleaning my air ducts every one or two days. Whereas although carpets need a good cleaning at least as often as air ducts do, I don't think I've ever had phone spam about it.

And I don't think that the air ducts that these folks are (supposedly) in the business of cleaning include the dryer vent. They're usually (supposedly) looking at the ducts between the furnace and the rooms.

These clowns are pestering my household on at least a weekly basis. Tired of it.
