Do you know the story behind this? Still haven't seen it - and I tried to buy it for Moria for a birthday present, and was planning a birthday video-watching party for him. Bummer...
Quotation: Hello from Amazon.ca.
We're sorry to report the release of the following item has been cancelled:
"Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"
Although we'd expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found it won't be released after all. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience we've caused you.
I don't know what happened here. It's still available from amazon.com, so I assume that it wasn't that too many people were upset when they found out that the thing was recorded on a DVD-R instead of being a normal DVD.
I can make an "unofficial" DVD recording for you, from the .AVI file that one of my colleagues gave me. I gave popelaksmi a copy also.
Of course. I'm generally fairly fussy about not distributing copyrighted work without the permission of the copyright holder. I'm somewhat more flexible about work that's been broadcast, and copies recorded "off the air". Dr. Horrible is in kind of a grey zone, and I haven't sorted out all of my feelings about it in this regard, but I'm nudged towards being comfortable with giving copies by the whole "only purchaseable in the U.S. -- oh, wait, we'll let you buy it in Canada after all -- oops, no we won't!" dance. I want to buy a copy, but if they'll only take my money if I jump through international hoops and pay a lot more... no, I don't think so.
How shall I get the copy to you? Do you expect to be out in this area any time soon?
What???? Arg. I wonder if they'll re-instate my order automatically..
I'd still like to get a copy from you... if you don't mind. Would one evening this week be possible for me to pick it up? Would you be interested in coming over on Saturday evening if I have a birthday/movie party for Moria?
I think it's unlikely that they'll reinstate the order -- the message about the cancellation seemed pretty clear that the item was simply deleted from my order. (Since then, I've cancelled the rest of the order and placed new orders which included the remaining items from the first order.) But you could call them to ask, or wait a couple of days to see what happens. I've noticed that amazon.ca seems to have a lot of churn with pre-ordered items: they're suddenly showing as delayed for a couple of months, or indefinitely, then just as suddenly are being shipped immediately. I think this is the first time I've had such an item completely cancelled.
A pick-up some evening this week should be possible; I've tentatively got plans for Wednesday but nothing else scheduled yet. Saturday evening... maybe; I don't have plans yet but I'm finding being back at work after the holidays to be a bit of a shock to the system. I'd like to come but I'm not sure how much energy I'll have by the weekend.
I may be out and about this evening (we're discovering we're short a few groceries for the week). If this is so, then could I give you a call? (Presuming you're in the phone-book.) This would probably be around 7:00ish, but I'm flexible. If tonight's not good, the whole week if fine for me.
That ought to be fine. I'm not sure what time I'll be home from work but it shouldn't be too much later than 6 p.m. (I hope!). My phone # is 727-6379 (and is in the phone book).
Thanks! I will see you tonight! I really appreciate this. I'll wait a bit, then re-submit my order, but at least the delayed order won't spoil the birthday surprise.
Arg - I am *so* sorry. I got to feeling poorly after work, and took a rest - just began to feel myself again now (almost 8:00). I'm in my jammies and not likely to budge from my pillows for the rest of the night. :(
I really hope I didn't curtain your freedom for the evening. I will try again - let me know how tomorrow evening works? I really really am terribly sorry.
These things happen, no big deal, though I wish I'd known sooner. I was intending a quiet evening at home anyway.
I think I can manage tomorrow evening, though it's uncertain at this point. We just got the usual-for-this-time-of-year request to do as much overtime as we can manage, towards fixing bugs for an upcoming product release. I'll try to let you know how things are playing out tomorrow afternoon.
