MSN headline: "Stars that died in 2008".

I'm sure it says something about me that my first reaction was "... But we won't even know until the light gets here, and that'll take years."

It was grammatically incorrect.

It should have been "stars we first found out about dying in 2008".

MSN is SOOOOO inaccurate.

Silly.

If it were referring to astral bodies, then it was fine, grammatically, but incorrect factually.

If it were referring to glitzy people, then it should have been stars who died.

I am not sure if I should be channelling Diana Wynne Jones, Diane Duane, or Madeleine L'Engle on conversations with stars that died.

That would have been much better. It would avoid most of those difficult relativistic questions about simultaneity and time over distance. (What is "in 2008" to an object light-years away? Do we have to add one year per light-year so that the time measurement is consistent? What about relative motion?)
