If the Pork People's legal group were sane, competent, informed, and professional, shouldn't they have said something like "Willard, it's a joke. A cease-and-desist is unnecessary and would be futile."?
I suspect that the firm is demonstrating that they are doing their due diligence - checking multiple medias for trademark use. Yes, they should have looked a little more closely, but it is completely conceivable that there IS a novelty food called "unicorn meat." I have a can of Romulan Ale.
They claim that they are obliged to do this kind of thing to protect their trademark. Is that true? I can understand needing to control uses of their actual trademarked phrase, but do they need to stamp out similar parody phrases such as "The new white meat", "The other white milk", etc.?
