Free conservation stuff from Hydro Ottawa
Aug. 6th, 2007 03:14 pmOne phones Hydro Ottawa at 613-738-6400 -- during working hours only, unfortunately -- and presses '5' to speak to someone in their energy-conservation group. One answers a brief survey about appliance and energy use ("Do you have a freezer? How old is it?" "Do you have an air conditioner?" Etc.). And they send out a powerWISE® Power Pack. This contains:
* A canvas tote bag
* Two compact fluorescent light bulbs. 13W, roughly equivalent in light output to 60W incandescent, and small enough to fit into my difficult-to-fit hall lamps. I'd have preferred something just a bit brighter, but I'm glad to finally have low-powered bulbs in those lamps.
* An LED nightlight. Too bright for my taste, actually, and white instead of my preferred blue or green. Easily fixed by popping the case open and marking the plastic tube inside with a coloured felt marker. Ha!
* A CD-ROM of conservation information. I haven't looked at it yet.
