Intergalactic bar billiards
Jun. 9th, 2010 02:33 pmDuring several hours of not-really-sleeping last night, I had a mini-dream which ended with me seeing a pool table with one ball that was oddly large and dark-red. On closer examination, it turned out to be coloured as a globe of Mars.
It occurred to me that one could do a set of pool balls showing globe images of Mercury through Saturn plus the Moon for the balls numbered 1 through 7. The 8 ball would be space-black with a few white stars; the cue ball would be the Sun with sunspots. Balls 9 through 15 could follow the classic pattern of being the same as 1 through 8 plus... I don't know, a white stripe?

"Oh, I've heard of worse," said Ford, "I read of one planet off in the seventh dimension that got used as a ball in a game of intergalactic bar billiards. Got potted straight into a black hole. Killed ten billion people." -- Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
