Dragonhaven
Jun. 2nd, 2010 01:39 pmI just finished reading Robin McKinley's Dragonhaven. I liked it, on the whole; I found the narrative voice a bit annoying at times, but I think that was intentional on the part of the author. The book is a very nice counterpoint to the McCaffrey approach to raising an infant dragon, which seems to amount to "stuff it with meat scraps, it'll be fine, and anyways there are drudges to deal with the messy stuff".
Am I correct in recalling that one of McKinley's recent books inspired a mountain-out-of-a-molehill fuss among some readers because one of the characters turned out to be gay — possibly this novel, which does have that plot element? If so... it was a really tiny molehill.
