It's bloody cold out. Enough that I'm getting frost on the frames of the fancy argon-filled windows that I had installed a few years ago, or at least those windows which don't have hot-air registers below them.
The pools at the SportsPlex are also cool today. Apparently the water was changed on the weekend, and the pools haven't warmed up yet. This made my swim today rather less pleasant and effective than usual. (It was also relatively brief, because the Para Transpo van got me to the pool about half an hour later than usual, but I guess that wasn't such a bad thing under the circumstances.)
When I got home, I found a flyer in my mailbox for GoodLife Fitness, advertising a 1¢ enrolment fee on a 1-year membership. This has me pondering "GoodLife Fitness Contract" to the tune of "Hotel California". ("You can cancel any time you like but you can never leave...")

Date: 2011-01-24 07:50 pm (UTC)My mother inquired about enrolling at Goodlife. I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was something like 400 dollars a year if you allowed them to automatically debit money from your account every month, or 800 dollars if you wanted to pay cash up front.
Because apparently people don't stay with the gym because it's so awesome, they stay because they make it impossible to cancel.
I showed her that CBC article when it came out, and she chose to go with one of the City of Ottawa recreation complexes. It's probably a better deal anyway.

Date: 2011-01-25 12:22 am (UTC)You were missed yesterday. I do hope that you're up to joining the group when next we housefilk. Would it help to have something like an exercise mat to stretch out on when your back needs a break?

Date: 2011-01-25 01:52 am (UTC)It might, depending partly on the nature of the mat. It's a bit hard to tell in advance. My stamina is pretty low in general these days, and just the travel to get to/from an event within the city can take more of a toll than it really should.
